About 200 volunteers converged on Mendocino Coast beaches Sept. 15 for the annual Coastal Cleanup Day, joining cleanup efforts all along the California shore. According to the Mendocino Land Trust, which coordinated the local effort, volunteers removed more than 1,100 pounds of garbage and 150 pounds of recyclables from over a dozen beaches from Elk to Westport.
