The City has been in the process of comprehensively updating its Coastal Land Use Plan, which serves as a standard of review for issuing coastal development permits in the City’s Coastal Zone. On May 9, 2019, the California Coastal Commission (CCC) certified the City’s updated Coastal Land Use Plan (LUP) with suggested modifications. On July 16, 2019, City Council adopted a resolution to accept the CCC’s suggested modifications to the updated Coastal LUP. The CCC Executive Director has determined that the City Council’s actions on the updated Coastal LUP are legally adequate. The CCC will consider the Executive Director’s determination and finalize certification of the updated Coastal LUP at its next hearing on August 9, 2019. The updated Coastal LUP would become effective approximately 2 weeks later when a Notice of Certification is filed with the Secretary of the California Natural Resources Agency. For more information on the updated Coastal LUP, visit SantaBarbaraCA.gov/LCP.
